Black Buck Antelope Hunting in Texas

Black Buck Hunting in Texas

Black Buck Hunting Season: Black Buck Antelope may be hunted year-round in Texas without any seasonal restrictions. The males coats will darken with age, making for an excellent trophy.

  • Origin: India
  • Horn Size: 18-24 Inches (Measured on the straight)
  • Weight: 75-110 pounds

Here on the Lonesome Bull Ranch we have black buck antelope herds in almost every area of the ranch. We have some of the biggest in the world. The hardest thing about black buck hunting here on the Lonesome Bull Ranch is trying to decide which huge male to harvest. We commonly harvest 22” Black Buck (measured on the straight).

Black Buck males will try to keep 10-30 females but are constantly challenged on a daily basis because they breed all year long. I tell people all they do is “breed, eat and fight”. Some ranchers claim to have 30” black buck but they measure them around the curl of the horns, and we measure on a straight line for purpose of choosing the largest trophy.
