Texas Wildebeest Hunting

Blue Wildebeest Hunting Season:Blue Wildebeest are an excellent species to hunt year-round in Texas!

  • Origin: Africa
  • Horn Size:  20”-34” Inches
  • Weight: 375-700 pounds
  • Lonesome Bull Ranch Population:60+
The Blue Wildebeest roam the entire 2600 acres on the Lonesome Bull Ranch and make a beautiful mount. When they are young the females are hard to distinguish apart from the males from a distance. The Blue Wildebeest females will drop calves within a week or less of each other. Even though they have access to the protein feeders on the Lonesome Bull Ranch we never find them eating protein at the feeders, only grass and hay. The Blue Wildebeest are unique looking and often called ugly. According to Africans the Blue Wildebeest is a legend and that god made them from bits and pieces left over from all the other animals.

Interesting Blue Wildebeest Hunting Information

The blue wildebeest, also called the common wildebeest, white-bearded wildebeest, or brindled gnu, is a large antelope and one of the two species of wildebeest. It is placed in the genus Connochaetes and family Bovidae, and has a close taxonomic relationship with the black wildebeest.

The blue wildebeest is known to have five subspecies. This broad-shouldered antelope has a muscular, front-heavy appearance, with a distinctive, robust muzzle. Young blue wildebeest are born tawny brown, and begin to take on their adult coloration at the age of 2 months. The adults’ hues range from a deep slate or bluish-gray to light gray or even grayish-brown. Both sexes possess a pair of large curved horns.
