Javelina Hunting in Texas
Javelina Hunting Season: Javelina can be hunted from Sep 1st – Aug 31 in the state of Texas.
- Origin: South America
- Weight: 40-65 pounds
- Tusk Size: Up to 2.5 Inches
The Javelina is similar in size to a small hog but with longer hair. The Javelina is referred to as collared peccary or skunk pig. They have a musk gland that you must be careful of when skinning the Javelina. When scared they chatter their teeth together making loud sounds that make them seem larger and their fur will stand up around their neck and back that makes them appear longer to help ward off their enemy.
